We're a crime/mafia roleplay set in the present-day Chicago.

After bombing the harbour, the new gang in town, Enigma, all but declared war on the most powerful family in the city, the Bianchi Family. Police struggled to capture the culprits and were well on their way to build a solid case against the Bianchi, but their hard work was set back once the police department was bombed. Now, the war between the two sides is more heated than ever, and the casualties only tend to grow.

Charlie Moretti

Switching it up a gear
Chicago's nightlife left nothing out on its list of less-than-legal activities. This event in particular was a glorious example of all of them. Crowds of men and women remained congregated in the mixed sounds of house and electronica pounding from speakers the size of doors peeking out from the backseats of the various cars littering this meeting. Scantily clad women gyrated and twerked to the thumping bass, some were lying on the hoods of cars whilst spectators snorted coke and took shots off of their bodies. The drug use, prostitution and a no doubt endless list of civil violations, were only sideshows to the main event, the cars that sat side-by-side were not just for show, their hoods open to show off the power within these bodies of carbon and steel. Charlie Moretti was showing off his own, a 69’ Chevrolet Camaro SS, the hood had a butterfly air scoop protruding from the centre. The body was cherry red, the windows were blacked out and the rims and the dual exhausts were a flawless chrome colour. There were 6 exhausts in total, two at the back and two running down each side of the car body. Charlie sat on the hood, looking at the other racers with a judgemental and keen eye, scoffing a little at the 20-something boy-racer besides him bragging about his NOS and V8 engine. “Uhuh. Doesn’t help you if you can't drive though bud.” he smirked as he stammered out excuses and justifications: “Ye-yeah, well, say that to my taillights.” Charlie thought about taking the high ground and not continuing this, but his wit got the better of him. “Sure will, when I lap you. Remember, accelerators on your right.” The kid had nothing more to say, babbling out something Charlie didn’t hear as he wandered off to view the competition.

It was certain that the Chicago Alpha’d be pissed at Moretti’s idea of a race. It hadn't the professionalism of their races, it was far more of a laissez-faire environment, Charlie didn’t care about their drugs and booze, it was all their own business and what they did was up to them. The race was sprung up, and was arranged via word-of-mouth, there was no formality to it. The case was usually the participants knew a guy who knew a guy or someone would say ‘hey, why don't we go watch that race?’ and as such the spectators were many. Maybe, however, Charlie could get their assistance in future, or at least their participation. The extra people meant more money for him when he won.

The cars would have been harder to see if this were a normal crowd with only streetlights to illuminate them, but it seemed almost everyone but Charlie had undercar neon lights in every colour imaginable, some had interior lighting in equal doses of vibrancy and variation. Leather seats for comfort, roll cages for protection, lights for style. The cars were all impressive in their own right, each seething with its owners style and taste, it was to be expected of course, this race was $5,000 to enter and the winner kept all of it. That meant there was a chance of winning $50,000 or even more depending on how many showed. It wasn’t about the money for Moretti of course, his Bianchi career had hardly left him poor, no, this was about the race, the adrenaline rush. The competitive urge that plagued him when his bodyguard made him a glorified mansion security guard. Winning fights, shooting bad guys, winning races, Charlie loved all of it. Worst came to worst, he lost and his car got trashed during the race as well as being out of the entry fee. In which case he had enough money for repairs and still had his Aston Martin for work purposes. Small price to pay for the enjoyment and the thrill he got from his new hobby.

The driver had a while to chat and show off and get to know each other, before they ended up side-by-side at the starting line. The finish line was a few miles away, but that was hardly an issue in the beasts they were sitting in. Charlie smirked as he reached to the dial on his radio, the sound of ‘Cant Stop’ by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers pumping out of the car as he looked at the other races through the open windows, glancing left and then right as his hands tightened around the leather wheel, watching as a scantily clad woman stood in the centre of the starting line with an award-winning smile, hands raised and counting out loud. ‘Three’. Handbrake off. ‘Two’ Foot on the accelerate. ‘One.’ Slamming his foot down, Charlie pulled away from the starting line in a screech of tires and a plume of grey smoke, blowback exploding from all 6 of Charlie's exhausts as he sped forwards away from the start. The race was on.

"Greed bows to me. It is my servant and my lever."

Vincenzo had been a part of these types of events since he was a rebellious teenager. He never missed them when he could, though he sometimes avoided the events of this scale so as to not be recognized and then ruin his public image. Sure, it was inevitable in all those years for the lowlifes he raced with to not know who he was, but he mostly joined the ones who were more discreet. He didn’t stay long enough to chitchat and have his picture taken, or he sometimes got a pretty boy or girl to talk in his place and make the bets. As long as they didn’t have real proof, they could gossip as much as they wanted. There were already lots of fake news traveling, people were hateful and didn’t mind stooping low enough to invent things. You didn’t have to be a politician to learn this lesson, you only had to go through highschool.

This particular race? Well, this event announced itself to be something extraordinary and his heart didn’t let him miss it. Until autumn last year, he had spent several years in Washington. Sure, he had his fun there, but nothing compared to the Chicago street life. It was the first big race since he got back and he felt kind of homesick. Chicago was his kingdom, and he wanted to see it again in it’s glory, when it was blooming.

He’d been here a while now, long enough to make small talk around, see some old friends and enemies alike. Long enough to get two young men to keep him company and pass the time until the race. Vincenzo wore sunglasses even though it was night outside, not caring how he was coming across to the others. His car had tinted windows, but they were currently hanging outside the car, making a pretty picture, laughing and drinking. As much as he liked the company, he could only feel that it was missing a feminine touch, so he kept looking around appreciatively. A leggy brunette caught his eye, she had his back towards him but he already liked the way her jumpsuit clung to her body. He reached inside the car to press the honker and get her attention. ”Want to go for a ride, bella?”

His whole world crashed when the woman turned around and it was no one other than his fiancée. What the hell was Bianca doing here? The men’s laughter reminded him that he wasn’t supposed to be there either. One of them was topless since Enzo dared him earlier to strip. He didn’t wait for a response and quickly engaged in escaping maneuvers and got into his car. But the damn window wasn’t closing fast enough. Cursing and making a mental note to make his company improve that, he heard the call for the lineup. The race was starting. Phew, perfect timing.

Well almost, the topless guy opened the other door and kissed his cheek. 'For good luck' and only afterwards did the window close. Ugh. Maybe he hadn't been recognized? In any case, it wasn't the time for thinking. He started the car and went to take his place, anything to flee the scene as quicker as possible. But he was already perturbed and it didn't look like a good start. He tried to calm himself down, waiting for the countdown, but then the woman was in front of them all? What the hell? Was Bianca following him? Oh god. What was she doing, was that a flag? What?

Yes, he definitely didn't get a good start.

Triangles are my favorite shape, Three points where two lines meet, Toe to toe, back to back, let's go, my love; it's very late, 'Til morning comes, let's tessellate. Three guns and one goes off, One's empty, one's not quick enough, One burn, one red, one grin, Search the graves while the camera spins.
Damn, if this wasnt good news. A huge race, organized by some Bianchi - as the word around the street said - so it was guaranteed that big bucks would be involved. Money that could be invested in Enigma's needs and interests, Ruby figured. And it was a win-win, you know - she got her adrenaline fix, the people got their show and if she (or perhaps any other Enigma participating) won, then the gang would also benefit of a nice sum of money. She could also just donate money from her own (daddy's) pocket, but this way it was more meaningful. She would have said 'more romantic', but Ruby didnt feel that way towards Enigma, it was her baby too after all.

And if an opportunity to do something for Enigma arised, then Ruby went all the way out. Promotion was important anywhere you went, and who knows, maybe some of the racers, criminals or spectators got a little curious and ended up making ties with any gang representant tonight. So for the PR, Ruby had her car slightly modified. A black race car, taken from the garage of a now travelling mr Dega (he wouldnt mind lending a car to a sister, right?), tuned to exhale purple clouds, like a mist-breathing dragon instead of the bland, grey colored pollution. And as purple was both Enigma's color, Neo's sign color and it was very much associated with the sin of pride (where Ruby felt guilty, but not really) - it was just the perfect bonus.

The race car was driven to the meeting point of the racers by an Enigma underling, tinted windows concealing any identity. Blackwood herself arrived on a motorcycle, all dressed in black to match the car, bike and the night as well as her soul with a helmet with cat ears on - obviously intended for show.

She gave no looks around, already knowing the spot and uncaring about the crowd, for now. However, the whole approach she chose would surely pay off in the long run - be it by intimidating opponents, making them underestimate her or grabbing a hold of plenty people's attention - there was no such thing as bad PR.

With the loud engine of the motorcycle now being tamed down, Ruby stepped off the vehicle without taking off her helmet, to keep her identity a mystery for a little while longer - and she gave a nod at the one time driver who passed her her car now and went to move the blonde's bike to a safer spot rather than in the middle of everything.

Ruby flicked on the lights of the car, both front and back, while the first were white and the latter a pastel purple - she wasnt as tasteless as to make it neon.

She avoided chatting with any other drivers while lining up for the race, and focused solely on getting a good start and a good time.

Truth was, she couldnt wait to shove someone off the road.

baby,
i will never cry for you, my mascara is too expensive
Who talked her into being the flag girl at this race, again?? Had it been Charlie Moretti? Bianca wasnt sure, she had a beauty mask on when it happened, with cucumber slices covering her eyes and all, and she had never been great at remembering voices, so...

Long story short, she was dressed up in a neon pink race chick suit, on high heels, in some part of the city that she wouldnt normally frequent (ew, the smell of trash_ no wait, just some dude's cologne) while holding a big ass race flag, ready to..well..shake it or something. The instructions werent clear.

As if that all and the whistling of some scumbags wasnt enough, some dude straight up offered her a ride. Did he not know who she was? She could get a fricking limo back home if she wanted to. Of course, that, onyl after he honked at her and almost scared the jumpsuit off of her. However, when she turned around to give him a piece of her mind (not much to spare though), Enzo's face came into view and Bianca immediately switched from looking angry to looking furious and confused. Why was he running from her? Why was he here? And if he didnt know it was her, was Enzo just flirting around with whatever bitch he saw?? Unnacceptable! "Vincenzo? COME BACK HERE YOU BITCH" her yelling was cut short by someone tapping on her shoulder to tell her she needed to do her job and shake that flag to start the race.

But no, she didnt miss the part where some dude just kissed her soon-to-be-dead fiance either.

"Three! Two! ONE!", and the race was on - cars dashing past her, people cheering, some purple smoke engulfing her and leaving her disoriented as she was now walked away from the spot.

"Greed bows to me. It is my servant and my lever."

It was a miracle he had noticed anything else waiting at the start – he was too focused on hiding from Bianca. But the catwoman was impossible to miss, seeing her grand entrance. He recognized Enigma instantly. But there was something else too – something he wouldn’t place until later in the race.

He was almost the last to start, seeing how he was still perturbed. ’Focus, focus’ he told himself. Bianca had a way to scramble his brains that no one else seemed to have. Honestly, he should have expected her there, after all he knew who had organized this race. He turned up the radio and tried to not think about anything else except the race. For a glorious moment he managed to catch Charlie’s taillights and trail him for a short while. He honked at him and grinned but soon they approached an intersection. He was slow to react and he blamed the „few” drinks he had earlier.

He was pushed back, and the next in line was no one else than the catwoman. If he couldn’t win this race, he could at least try to find the mystery woman’s identity. He turned down the radio and then the window, while he got his car in line with hers. ”What’s new, pussycat?” he shouted, and then turned back to pay attention to the road. The way she was taking turns and changing gears made him have a feeling that he had raced her before. ”Do I know you?”

The race got them through some tricky parts of the city, through narrow backside roads. He kept fighting to stay on top, but when they entered a one-car only alley, he stayed behind her. But not quietly, of course. He pushed the speed to the max and slightly bumped into her car, pushing her forward.
