We're a crime/mafia roleplay set in the present-day Chicago.

After bombing the harbour, the new gang in town, Enigma, all but declared war on the most powerful family in the city, the Bianchi Family. Police struggled to capture the culprits and were well on their way to build a solid case against the Bianchi, but their hard work was set back once the police department was bombed. Now, the war between the two sides is more heated than ever, and the casualties only tend to grow.

’H
ey, how busy are you? Because I got the weekend free’ Asterin quickly texted Clara on one of her breaks. She didn’t want to disturb her friend in case she was in the middle of something. Besides, she wanted to hurry back to work, to finish her rounds as quickly as possible and then get out of there early.

Friday afternoon. It was rare when Asterin got the chance to feel what most working people did about that day of the week. The doctor was frequently called in on weekends and got free days randomly during the week. Or none at all. Since the Southside riots started, no hospital staff got a minute to relax. It had been a few weeks since she went home with sunshine still outside, let alone since she had a couple of days of break. But then again, this was Chicago. She had got used to an unpredictable schedule.

But she knew from Clara that the police staff was even busier. It was why Asterin’s way home from the hospital had been so glum, thinking that maybe she was just getting her hopes up and gonna spend her time off alone. One thing was for sure though, Clara had to come home at the end of the day, so it was still a plus to sit with someone and have dinner. And breakfast the next day.

The summer heat was exhausting and Asterin arrived home almost looking like a puddle herself. The heat wave had taken a liking to Chicago for a while now but it seemed she never managed to cope well.

”Honey, I’m home!” she yelled, joking, but silence answered her. Sighing and taking off her shoes, she muttered to herself ”Sometime, someone will answer that”. The brunette padded to the kitchen and drank a tall glass of water, then inspected the contents of the fridge. She thought it would be so nice if she managed to surprise her roommate and prepare dinner, something homemade for a change. They both deserved it after all the hard work they did.

But before trying to cook anything, she decided to take a shower. The clothes still clung to her and it was definitely not the sexy kind of sweat. Returning soon in a fresh pair of shorts and tank top, hair still wet, Asterin turned on the radio and began to take out different ingredients. She checked the freezer to see if they still had some frozen vegetables, but instead the ice cream caught her eye.

Looking quickly at the clock, she jumped on the counter and began to devour the ice cream. It was still early, and Clara hadn’t answered her text from before. And it was still hot as hell, even inside, and that ice cream was just so good.

And of course it was the exact moment she heard the key turn and the door open. When her roommate appeared in the kitchen doorway, Asterin offered a guilty puppy look but didn’t pretend to have been more productive, just offered a shameless grin instead. ”This isn’t the state in which I was planning to be found, but I’m glad you’re out early!”

CLARA DARWIN

S
ighing contentedly, she looked out of the small, airplane window, overlooking the airport. It was nice to be home, back in Chicago, safe and sound. She had taken a small, weekend trip back home, to visit her mother and old friends in Toronto, being able to participate at the bachelorette party of one of her highschool girlfriends. Her Christmas break had been short as well, so she felt she needed to make up for it and now had been a good time as any. As much as she loved her mother and hometown, she was glad to be back. She liked her space, her own place, the life she made for herself. Most of all, being without supervision, like a self-suficing adult, without being nagged at and made to feel like a 10 year old in trouble again.

Getting through customs had been a breeze as opposed to embarking. She supposed that it made sense, what else could've changed during the flight? Waiting for the luggage though was more bothersome, since it took an eternity everytime. She tried to read patiently a magazine until she got bored and watched the people around instead. They were coming in from all flights, waiting in the same area for their luggage. Being away from home was tiring in itself, but traveling was so rewarding, making her feel a part of something bigger. Maybe it was only in her imagination, this connection, but she liked seeing so much diversity.

She perked up when her flight was announced and trunks and bags started flowing through on the conveyor. She had been close, but people were already crowding around it, making it almost impossible for someone her height to see clearly. Only when half of them cleared out, she was able to spot her own suitcase and proceeded to hurry after it. It never occured to her once to check the tag.

And after arriving home it took a while until she decided to unpack. Already late in the night, she felt lazy but didn't want to get stuck with that travel smell. Besides, she had an appetite for good, foreign chocolate. But instead of finding teeth killer, cavity inducing goodies, she almost found a heart attack. She screamed and jumped back a few steps.

Guns. Knives. And something that looked like explosives. How the hell did this even get in an airport? Asterin quickly looked for tags, but obviously there were none. What was she supposed to do now? She couldn't call back to the airport with a normal luggage swap problem, this was something that could get her in a lot of trouble. And most importantly, she couldn't remember when her chocolate expired, but she hoped it wasn't sometime soon.

notes: they can go to her house or call, she definitely had a name and number on her suitcase. also pls note she had been to a bachelorette party, so if they open her suitcase, there will be a big sex toy and obscene candy she got as party favors XD

Q
uite recently, Asterin received in the mail a postcard that sent chills through her body. There wasn’t anything written on it, or a return address, only signed with ‘xoxo’s, which she knew very well what meant. Since then, she locked herself in her apartment and only left for work. She never went out alone at night without company – which was problematic enough. She couldn’t sleep anymore, listening for any sign of someone breaking in. She felt watched everywhere she went.

It was no wonder her paranoia drove her to the police station sooner or later. She didn’t know what else she could do, but that’s what she was there for, to tell them and to ask questions. She already had a restraining order, but did these things have an expiration date? She couldn’t risk this over a small mistake and she wasn’t anything if she wasn’t very thorough in everything.

She looked around, a little lost. It was the first time she was at any of Chicago’s police precincts. She picked the main, central one, since it was closer and she thought as well it was the best one, right? Anyway, she expected someone to ask her business upon entering but there was no such thing, everyone seemed to know where to go, except her. She tried to ask around, but all the officers looked bored and tough and everyone dismissed her. One dude said to ask for Harry since he was in public relations but conveniently forget to mention where. She even yelled ”Harry?” in front of some desks but nobody answered, just gave her some weird looks.

”Excuse me” Asterin intercepted a young woman, a brunette who seemed the most welcoming in this grumpy place. ”Do you know, by any chance, where I might find Harry? Or anyone else who deals with restraining orders and…” and offered a pleading look.

A
bright and early day, cold yet sunny. Two coffees, warming up her gloved hands. She had debated herbal tea but this was a celebration. Rosy cheeks and breath fogging in the air, the cars fly past, yet her attention is on the sidewalk, left and right. Comfy shoes, warm clothes and an enthusiasm to rival a kid on Halloween candy. Eager for this day to end successful, Asterin is ready to move and live a better life. She already started packing, a few boxes here and there. There wasn't much stuff to begin with.

Noticing the young woman approaching, her eyes light up and she skips towards Effie. "Hey, there! Get your mold-noticing glasses on and I'll put on the gas-smelling face, by the end of the day, we're getting a house!" she exclaimed, passing on one of the coffees then went to hug her friend.

Asterin was determined to get to the bottom of this today, it had been in her plans so long and she really wanted to start the new year with a change. She still felt grateful for Effie, to have her as a future roommmate, she was her lucky star, she partially believed in fate and signs and most of all, on instincts. Taking out her phone, she looked up the list of addresses. "Alright, the first one isn't very far, we can walk, it's that way. What do you think of the neighborhood? Does it even really matter that much? We don't have kids to send to school" she was mostly just thinking out loud.

This is very open, any gender, group, whatever. There can be more than one. I just want her to not live alone anymore. She considered getting a pet but it would just be cruelty since she can't devote any time to them. So a roommate is perfect it's better to neglect a human being lmao

Asterin lived in a rather small apartment until now. They can keep that, or she could move into the roommate's place, or they could start looking for a brand new one (and have fun looking around, going to places just to eat the cookies, pretend to have other identities just to screw with the realtors, argue about location, light and whatever, childishly fight over which one gets which room like "the first one who drinks this carton of tomato juice" etc)

I don't suppose a Bianchi would live with her, only someone lower on the hierarchy stair that just works for them. But I would love an unlikely pairing from either Bianchi or Enigma, it would be fun. (*Asterin sees many cleaning supplies and bottles of bleach* "Oh, cool, this person is really hygyene-oriented and a clean freak, nice!") or (*Asterin hears thudding in the roommates room and thinks they are having a partner and doing the naughty* *actually the roommate is fighting off hired assassins*)

Other shenanigans they can be up to as roommates:
 • cooking and burning everything/cooking together
 • making fun of shower singing
 • an ex/family member turning up and making both their lives hard
 • house parties!/one of them wants to throw a party but the other just wants to sleep (cough Asterin). the police end up at their door. no, actually, the police end up joining their party psst click here
 • calling the other one to deal with spiders/both of them freak out and live with trapped spiders in cups all over the house
 • overall giving each other comfort, support and advice

UPDATE

<s>first roommate: EFFIE SAVAGE</s> away for now

1-4 open spots but hmu first so we can see if they work
