We're a crime/mafia roleplay set in the present-day Chicago.

After bombing the harbour, the new gang in town, Enigma, all but declared war on the most powerful family in the city, the Bianchi Family. Police struggled to capture the culprits and were well on their way to build a solid case against the Bianchi, but their hard work was set back once the police department was bombed. Now, the war between the two sides is more heated than ever, and the casualties only tend to grow.

Numb, that’s how Jacob felt most of the time. He didn’t have a bad life, after he was freed from the Bianchi grasps, he could say his life improved. His life wasn’t in danger, he didn’t owe Delilah anything, he could do whatever he wanted with his life, and that was fine, it was who he was a little less than two years ago when he got into this mess. But… he changed. Somewhere along the way he learned how to care for a person in a way he didn’t think possible, and with that came the fear of disappointment, and the fear of disappointment made him willingly give up everything that made him the Masked Mercenary.
<p>
When he was with Max, things went okay, Jacob got overwhelmed by his own feelings and he felt pretty blissful. But those moments felt like they were rarer and rarer. Last time it had been the one date Max took him to play paintball and Jacob had taken it too seriously, covered Max in paint, and it had been the most fun he had in a while… But that was a while ago and since then a few weeks had passed and Jacob just existed in his apartment, not even his side job as an IT tech could make him move, the only one who saw him was Murder the cat.
<p>
Poor Murder though…. The little baby deserved more than a mopey Jacob. Even his food had ended that morning. And Jacob himself only had crackers in the cupboards to eat. “I’m sorry pretty boy… I’m such a lousy dad, aren’t I?” Murder just mrewd at him cutely and rubbed himself against Jacob’s legs. “You hungry? I should go outside, shouldn’t I? I look like such a mess… I’ll scare children on the streets. You don’t want that, do you Murder?” He sighed, frustrated with himself. Why was he like this? He should do something with his life, but where was motivation? Playing with the PD had been fun, but Max never called for his help again, he was a bit disappointed.
<p>
Jacob played with his phone on his hand… what a decent grown ass man should do was move his butt and go do groceries, get his life together and just react. But… he had Max. So he texted his Max.
<p>
“Muder needs food : ( Send help” Read the first text.
<p>
“Bring some for me too please <3” Was the second, sent as an afterthought, 15 minutes later.
<p>
He felt like a useless sack of garbage. Why did Max put up with him again? Though at the same time…. It had been a while, Max should spare some time for him, right? It was fair, right?

A few messeges and Jacob spent the rest of the day lost in thought, mulling over what Ruby said and what she didn’t say. He still thought she must hate him, at least a little bit, this was the first bit of dialogue between the two of them in a couple of months and that was telling, but if she wasn’t willing to speak frankly how could he even begin starting to apologize? Now they had a meeting, at the park… to say Jacob was nervous about it would be an understatement, perhaps it would be the opportunity to apologize to her and maybe save their friendship.
<p>
The rest of the week passed without a hitch, Jacob left his apartment exactly once to buy Murder some food, and also for himself, but it was mostly because of Murder. Before he knew it, it was Saturday and Jacob was dreading it. He had zero motivation to leave the house and he didn’t understand why Ruby needed him to go outside when his house was perfectly fine to have a conversation.
<p>
It was just past 10am and Jacob was melted into his couch still with his pajama pants on, he wasn’t dirty, but he was unkempt, his curls wilder than usual and his beard needed a blade. He didn’t feel like moving even if he realized Ruby would be there soon. But he reasoned with himself that she would probably call before she came, right? So he waited, Murder was happy to wait with him too and he obsessively kept checking his phone for any signs of her.

Technically speaking, Jacob was as free as a bird from Delilah’s crutches. Yes, it was a false freedom that came with a price he couldn’t pay, but it was freedom nonetheless, he didn’t work for her anymore and that was that; At first it had been good, freeing even, to not have to worry he’d piss some Bianchi douche and find himself fired by a gun or that he was going to be called in the middle of the night to clean their messes again with no option to say no. Jacob had time to himself, time to do what he liked, time for hobbies, time for everything. It turned out to be too much free time though… a lot of it.
<p>
A month then two passed, Delilah never called for him, Ruby was giving him the cold shoulde, talking to him only when he had helpfully informed her of what had happened and what Delilah wanted him to do and Jacob was left…. With absolutely nothing to occupy his time. Yeah, he could pick up one off jobs, get back to his usual routine of killing for whoever paid the best. But, everytime he decided to find such job, a voice that sounded suspiciously like Max told him he shouldn’t do that, and then he thought of the disappointment in Max’s eyes and he just…couldn’t do it. The cop had never told him to stop killing, but he didn’t have to for Jacob to know it was what he wanted. So he spent most of his days copped up in his apartment with only Murder as company. It was true that he sometimes got to spend time with Max, but with how he was back at the Bianchi case full force, those visits didn’t happen as often as he’d like, and even then, Jacob felt restless, even when he had Max around, he felt like he was missing something.
<p>
And then Max had told him about some Bianchi guns that were hidden away at the destroyed harbor all this time. What Max wanted was help, and not the merc kind, but Jacob’s less spoken about skill, his hacking expertise. Jacob held no love for the Bianchi, and like previously stated, he didn’t work with them anymore, which was why he said yes. He did reconsider it when Max asked him to come to the PD, somehow he hadn’t thought that was necessary.
<p>
But he was found stepping on the Chicago Police Department for the first time in years. It looked… very mundane actually. People worked, people phoned, people were brought to the holding cells and no one started accusing Jacob of killing hundreds. He went to the reception desk and asked about Detective Madden, and after receiving directions he got to the innocuous door and opened it, belatedly realizing that perhaps he should’ve knocked when just then a dark skinned cop stepped outside, shooting him an odd look that soon turned into a knowing smile as she passed him.
<p>
“Max, I’m here, hi.” He said awkwardly with a little wave, standing by the door.

It was lovely to not worry about things too much. It had been a while since Jacob felt quite this calm. It was like things were for once looking up to him. Life was good for him, plain and simple, not even the work he had to do for the Bianchi was capable of bringing his mood down. And even that seemed fine, lately he hadn’t had many assignments and the ones he had weren’t overly complicated. Today had also been a simple little mission, all he had to do was to steal some documents and drop them off, and right he had just finished doing just that, leaving the pile of stolen documents on Delilah’s desk, glad to have avoided the godmother or anyone else in the mansion.
<p>
With his work done, Jacob was on his way to show himself out, nodding once to one of the maids who by now already were used to his masked presence. It was odd, the mansion felt a lot emptier, maybe somber as well, like a cloud of sadness had settled over it ever since Shaun died. Jacob didn’t much care, in fact, he even thought it was a bit more peaceful, and dare he say, he was glad that horny bastard finally died. No wonder he wasn’t invited to the funeral, he wouldn’t have been able to stop himself from throwing confetti at the coffin.
<p>
Before he could leave, a figure caught his attention on the corner of his eye. Someone he hadn’t seen in months actually, ever since the WBC had been attacked. Valeria Bianchi, the only decent Bianchi he had ever met since he started working for Delilah. What he didn’t expect was the sudden bad feeling he got when he remembered the situation, he had been such a bad bodyguard, failed so miserably and the reason was not only the surprise, but also the fact that it had been none other than Ruby the one who attacked, and he feared the reason she was targeted, had been the fact that Valeria was with him more than the fact that she had the Bianchi last name. “Valeria. Been a while since I saw you.” He said in greeting, surprise evident in his voice.
